We spent the weekend at Toby's grandpa's house. On Saturday evening, we went fishing on the farm. It is land that was settled upon by Toby's great great great grandparents in Ohio County, Kentucky. The story goes that when the original owners passed on they left the land to their kids. Eventually over the years the land has exchanged many hands, some still in the family and some not. Well, slowly Grandpa and Uncle Jay have been buying the family land back. Hence the reason for the name, Kirk and Others Farm. They now have over 600 acres and still don't quite have it all. A few of the people won't sell. They have some areas that are set up to feed animals. I hadn't heard of this before but it's a great idea. They have a bean field as well as a sunflower field. These crops are not to be harvested and eaten instead they are there solely for animals to have some food. The lake on the farm was practically gone several years back. Beavers had dammed the lake and ruined it. They spent several years and $$ to get it back to a lake with water again and have stocked it with bluegill, bass and catfish. This is such beautiful land...it made me even more excited for our upcoming move back to Morrison, Il. Nature is so beautiful and peaceful and I want Wyatt to grow up knowing all about the grass, trees and the Mississippi river; not cement and sky scrapers.
